It might have started as a joke for Lil Frosh but it wasn’t all too long before grace found him. From an Instagram freestyle skit maker to becoming a trending celebrity, the story of Lil is indeed encouraging and worth preaching.
Lil Frosh Biography
Lil Frosh, also known as ‘Eru Iku Makanaki‘ is a Nigerian, Lagos-based afro-hip hop rapper and songwriter largely known for his Instagram freestyle rap skits with Zinoleesky, a close friend and music partner. His rap is style is indigenous and heavily laced with the Yoruba language and is known to be the originator of the slangs ‘Sonto Polio‘ and ‘Firi Yahoo‘. He is currently signed to DMW, a record label owned by Davido.
He currently owns a track which features the Agege frontier, Small Doctor which is titled ‘Firi Yahoo’ and currently was featured by his best friend Zinoleesky in a new song title “who knows “ Much is expected from this talented rapper as he spits bars on every freestyle he jumps on. He is expected to be the new wave of indigenous rap in Nigeria.
If you are familiar with viral freestyle videos off the mainstream internet in Lagos, then you’ve most likely come across their images casually referred to as “The street Alte”—the tag name for the fashion fad these young talents from the streets of Lagos mainland exhibited. Glossy blonde hair, irregular and deliberate color match from tops to bottoms, heavy accessory set and boldface to match with: but there’s clearly more to Lil Frosh & Zinolesky. These boys can actually rap & sing, respectively.
While Lil Frosh who is just setting out is seen as a Yoruba-sided indigenous rapper which begs the question whether or not he will appeal to all fans and lovers of rap without favouring a side than the others, it will be worthy of note to mention that the likes of Small Doctor, Zlatan Ibilie and Olamide thrive and set out doing the same. Lil Frosh’s break out style is similar to Teni‘s who wowed the mind of celebrities on Instagram before recording her first single ‘Fagin’.
But a number of people think it’s more than just their metaphors and sonic delivery, perhaps a much more welcoming ambiance in the manner Zinolesky and Lil Frosh present their genius. Cool FM OAP Kemi Smallzz describes the positive aura they exude. “Honestly when I first saw them they just made me happy. I didn’t understand what they were saying. I like the vibe. Their happiness was translating.”
